The Pemberley Family Tree: Who's Who in Georgiana & Kitty?

If you've ever watched a Jane Austen adaptation and thought, "Wait… who's related to whom?" you're not alone.

Between the Bennet sisters, the Darcy family, the Bingleys, and the occasional questionable gentleman, the world of Pride and Prejudice packs a lot of history.

New to the Christmas at Pemberley series? Start with our guide to what happened in Miss Bennet and The Wickhams, where we catch you up on the first two plays before diving into the final chapter.

Now that Theatre Huntsville is bringing Georgiana & Kitty: Christmas at Pemberley to the stage, it's time to reacquaint yourself with the family.

Whether you're a lifelong Austen fan or just joining us for the holiday romance, here's your guide to the people, relationships, and occasional troublemakers you'll meet at Pemberley.

Consider this your official Regency-era family cheat sheet.

First, Meet the Bennet Sisters

The Bennets are the family at the center of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. Mr. and Mrs. Bennet have five daughters, and each one has a very different personality.

Elizabeth Bennet (now Elizabeth Darcy)

The second-oldest Bennet sister and one half of Austen's most famous love story. Elizabeth married Fitzwilliam Darcy and now lives at his family estate, Pemberley.

She's clever, witty, independent, and generally pretty good at seeing through people's nonsense.

Jane Bennet (now Jane Bingley)

The oldest Bennet sister. Sweet, kind, and perhaps a little too willing to see the best in everyone, Jane married Charles Bingley.

She's expecting her first child, making this Christmas gathering especially exciting.

Mary Bennet

The middle sister. Bookish, intellectual, sharp-tongued, and never one to miss an opportunity to offer an observation.

In the first Christmas at Pemberley play, Miss Bennet, Mary found love with Arthur de Bourgh. They're now engaged.

Kitty Bennet

The second-youngest Bennet sister. If you remember Pride and Prejudice, you may remember Kitty mostly as Lydia's sidekick.

But Kitty is ready for a change. She's grown more independent, found her voice, and become close friends with Georgiana Darcy.

She's finally getting her own story!

Lydia Bennet (now Lydia Wickham)

The youngest Bennet sister. Outgoing, impulsive, dramatic, and never one to shy away from attention.

Lydia famously married George Wickham, but that marriage didn't exactly have a fairy-tale ending. After the events of The Wickhams, she's newly single and figuring out what comes next.

She may have gained a little wisdom, but she's still very much Lydia.

Now, Meet the Darcys

The Darcy family is a little smaller, but they come with plenty of personality.

Fitzwilliam Darcy (Mr. Darcy)

Yes, THAT Mr. Darcy.

He's Elizabeth's husband and the master of Pemberley. He's wealthy, proud, protective of his family, and not always the warmest person in the room.

He loves his younger sister Georgiana very much. Sometimes a little too much, especially when it comes to her romantic life.

Georgiana Darcy

Mr. Darcy's younger sister and the other half of our title duo.

Georgiana is shy, intelligent, and an accomplished pianist. She's also a little wary of romance after a difficult experience with George Wickham in her past.

She's become close friends with Kitty Bennet, and the two are ready to figure out what they want from life beyond being someone's little sister.

Georgiana also has a secret correspondent named Henry Grey. And this Christmas, he's coming to Pemberley.

Cue the family interference.

The Bingleys and de Bourghs

Charles Bingley

Jane's husband and one of Darcy's closest friends. He's cheerful, friendly, and generally much easier to get along with than his famously reserved brother-in-law.

Arthur de Bourgh

Mary Bennet's fiancé. He's intelligent, thoughtful, and shares Mary's love of books and intellectual conversation.

He made quite an impression in Miss Bennet, and he's now engaged to Mary.

The Newcomers

Not everyone at Pemberley is part of the original Bennet-Darcy family circle.

A couple of new faces are about to make things interesting.

Henry Grey

Georgiana's shy, thoughtful secret correspondent and romantic interest.

He's intelligent, sincere, and not exactly the loudest gentleman in the room. His arrival at Pemberley for Christmas begins a new chapter for Georgiana.

Thomas O'Brien

Henry's friend. He's good-natured, outspoken, a little bawdy, and not particularly interested in the rules of polite society.

In other words, he may be just the person needed to shake things up a bit.

Wondering whether you need to know all this Austen backstory to enjoy the show? We answer that question in Do You Need to Read Pride and Prejudice Before Seeing Georgiana & Kitty?.

So… How Is Everyone Connected?

Here's the quick version:

  • Elizabeth Darcy is married to Fitzwilliam Darcy.

  • Georgiana Darcy is Fitzwilliam's younger sister.

  • Jane Bennet is married to Charles Bingley.

  • Mary Bennet is engaged to Arthur de Bourgh.

  • Kitty and Lydia are sisters of Elizabeth, Jane, and Mary.

  • Lydia was married to George Wickham but is now single.

  • Georgiana and Kitty are best friends.

And here's the connection that makes the whole thing work:

Elizabeth is Kitty's older sister AND Georgiana's sister-in-law.

So Georgiana and Kitty aren't technically sisters, but they're connected through the Darcy-Bennet family and have become close friends.

Basically, everyone is family-adjacent, everyone knows everyone's business, and Christmas is never boring.
