Now in its 9th year, the Rocket City Playwrights Series returns to spotlight original 10-minute plays written by talented North Alabama playwrights.

This annual celebration of local storytelling brings fresh voices to the stage and offers audiences a chance to discover the next big thing in theatre:

About The Event

The Rocket City Playwrights Series features six original short plays selected through a competitive submission process.

A panel of judges chooses the finalists, and the plays are presented to the public in a readers’ theatre format,

a minimalist performance style that highlights the script and the actor’s voice, without the use of costumes, props, or set design.

Audiences attend one of two nights and vote for their favorite play, with cash prizes awarded to the top.

What is Readers’ Theatre?
In readers’ theatre, actors stand on stage with scripts in hand. There are no costumes, props, or special lighting—just powerful storytelling through voice and performance.
