  • NOTE: Many roles in this show will involve intimate contact with other actors and acts of staged physical and emotional aggression. These will be carefully choreographed by an intimacy director.

Blanche DuBois | Age range 30s
Raised with money but now destitute, she has just lost her teaching position in Laurel, Mississippi, because of her promiscuity. She is a sensitive, delicate, moth-like member of the fading Southern aristocracy. Her grip on reality is far too loose, carries eternal guilt, has a way with words and possesses an alarming internal dialogue.
Note: This role involves depicting intimate acts and scenes of sexual violence.

Stanley Kowalski | Age range 30s
Ex-military, working at a factory, with a brutish demeanor and quick temper. His main drive in life is sexual. He is lean, vibrant, radiates energy; has dirt under his nails. Unshakeable world view and sees his commonness as above Blanche's pretensions.  He hits his wife, rapes her sister, and shows no remorse.
Note: This role involves depicting domestic violence and sexual assault.

Stella Kowalski | Age range 20-30s
Fair, vivacious, sensual. She is Blanche’s younger sister and married to Stanley. Throughout the play she is torn between the two.  She is happy in her marriage and her home; however, much to the consternation of Blanche, she has forgotten her genteel upbringing in order to enjoy a more common existence.
Note: This role involves depicting intimate acts and domestic violence.

Harold Mitchell (Mitch) | Age range: mid-30s-40s.
Stanley’s shy and nervous friend, devoted to his mother.  Frustrated at still being single, Mitch wants someone who’s “genteel and a lady,” so he can “marry up.”
Note: This role involves depicting intimate acts and sexual harassment/assault.

Eunice Hubbell | Age range: Mid 20s-mid 30s
The landlady and supportive friend to Stella. A bit crass and rough around the edges.
Note: This role may require depicting intimate acts.

Steve Hubbell | Age range: mid 20s-40s
Eunice’s husband and one of the poker players.  Same demeanor as his wife – on the crass side and very earthy.
Note: This role involves depicting intimate acts.

    Ensemble Roles:

Young Collector | Age Range: early 20s
A young man collecting money for the newspaper.
Note: This role involves depicting an intimate act.

Pablo Gonzales | Age range: mid 20s-40s
Member of Stanley’s regular poker games. Speaks with a Spanish accent.

    Flower Woman | Age 35+
    Sells tin funerary flowers.

    Doctor | Age range: 30+
Appears at the end of the show to take Blanche away.

Neighbor Woman | Age range: 30+
Cracks jokes at the top of the show.

    Nurse | Age range: 30+
A cold, clinical assistant to the Doctor.
