  • GENERAL AUDITION NOTES

    • All roles are open to performers of all races, genders and ethnicities.

    • Age ranges are flexible; casting is based on vocal ability, acting skill, and ensemble balance.

    • Strong acting and storytelling are essential—this show lives in the words as much as the music.

    PRINCIPAL ROLES

    JOHN ADAMS
    Tenor / Baritone
The stubborn, brilliant, frequently exasperated delegate from Massachusetts. Adams is passionate, opinionated, and utterly incapable of letting things go. Strong acting and stamina required—this role drives the show (and everyone else slightly insane).

    BENJAMIN FRANKLIN
    Baritone
The elder statesman with wit to spare. Franklin is charming, sly, and enjoys stirring the pot just enough to keep things interesting. Requires excellent comic timing and stage presence.

    THOMAS JEFFERSON
    Tenor
Young, idealistic, poetic—and perpetually distracted by thoughts of his wife. A romantic lead with lyrical vocals and a touch of gentle humor.

    JOHN HANCOCK
    Baritone
President of the Continental Congress. Polished, confident, and enjoys the spotlight. A commanding presence with a sense of humor just beneath the surface.

    RICHARD HENRY LEE
    Tenor
Delegate from Virginia who introduces the resolution for independence. Earnest, principled, and persuasive.

    BENJAMIN RUSH
    Tenor
Physician, delegate, and enthusiastic cheerleader for independence. Playful, energetic, and often breaking tension with humor.

    ROGER SHERMAN
    Baritone
Delegate from Connecticut. Practical, grounded, and a bit gruff. A voice of common sense amid lofty ideals.

    ROBERT LIVINGSTON
    Baritone
Delegate from New York. Conservative, cautious, and politically savvy. Strong ensemble work with moments of dry humor.

    ABIGAIL ADAMS
    Mezzo-Soprano / Alto
John Adams’ wife. Intelligent, compassionate, and emotionally grounded. Appears primarily through correspondence but leaves a powerful impression.

    MARTHA JEFFERSON
    Mezzo-Soprano / Alto
Thomas Jefferson’s wife. Gentle, loving, and musically central to Jefferson’s arc.

    DELEGATES & SUPPORTING ROLES

    EDWARD RUTLEDGE
    Tenor
Delegate from South Carolina. Polished, persuasive, and unapologetically self-interested. Requires strong vocals and confidence.

    CHARLES THOMSON
    Baritone
Secretary of the Congress. Observant, efficient, and often the bridge between chaos and order.

    SAMUEL CHASE
    Tenor
Delegate from Maryland. Loud, fiery, and deeply opinionated. A bold comedic presence.

    JAMES WILSON
    Tenor
Delegate from Pennsylvania. Thoughtful, conflicted, and analytical.

    STEPHEN HOPKINS
    Baritone
Delegate from Rhode Island. Older, eccentric, and unexpectedly sharp. A character role with warmth and wit.

    CAESAR RODNEY
    Tenor
Delegate from Delaware. Physically ill but mentally fierce. A memorable role requiring strong dramatic commitment.

    ENSEMBLE / CONGRESS MEMBERS

Delegates from various colonies who create the world of the Continental Congress. Strong singers and actors needed to handle harmony, movement, and character work. Many ensemble members will portray multiple delegates.
