This play sends up gender “norms,” and all characters can be played by actors of any gender, age or type.
Harker (20s-30s, M)
British accentLucy’s timid, prim, and proper germaphobe real estate agent fiancee who is frightened of his own shadow. After he’s bitten he transforms into a leather-clad rock star.
Note: This role includes at least one male/female kiss and a male/male kiss.
Dr. Westfeldt (40s-50s, M)
British accentLucy and Mina's father. A self-important, misogynistic doctor running an insane asylum. A symbol of proper Victorian culture, he upholds only the finest of outdated Victorian views on medicine, the sexes, and basically everything else.
Lucy Westfeldt (20s-30s, F)
British accentThe brave and adventurous fiancée of Jonathan. She is an intelligent "new woman" who leads the hunt to find and kill Dracula.
Mina Westfeldt (20s-30s, F)
British accentLucy’s sister, Mina is awkward, nerdy, and not-so-subtly jealous of Lucy.
Dr. Van Helsing (40s-50s, F)
German accent a la Mel BrooksA brilliant, sturdy, and no-nonsense female German vampire hunter from the University of Schmutz. She exudes authority in a way Dr. Westfeldt could only dream of.
Dracula (1,000+, M)
Commanding European accentA centuries-old vampire who is the sexiest man not-alive. A narcissistic pansexual rock star who knows how hot he is and flaunts it at every occasion. He is still, however, also an evil blood-drinking corpse-man. Equal parts sexy, silly, and actually scary.
Note: This role includes going shirtless and a male/male kiss.
Supporting Actor 1 (Any age, any gender)
Part of a 2-person ensemble, this is a flexible role that plays multiple distinct, cartoony incidental characters, including:
Renfield, the bug-eating madman Dr. Westfeldt is trying to rehabilitate
Lord Cavendish/Lord Worthington/Lord Havemercy, two stuffy aristocrats and a cowboy, all at the same time.
Bosun, the first mate on a doomed voyage
Supporting Actor 2 (Any age, any gender)
The other part of the 2-person ensemble, this role also plays several distinct, cartoony incidental characters, including:
Kitty, the kleptomaniac maid
Captain, the pilot on a doomed voyage
Carriage Driver
Gravedigger
The Creeps (Any age, any gender, non-speaking)
A small team (4 to 6) of masked ghouls who act partly as stagehands to assist with scene changes, as extras to act as crowds, as back-up dancers for Dracula, and as comedians to help with the ‘special effects.’ Must be able to express character solely through movement.
